`Regarding Yevgeny Prigozhin, he is in St Petersburg. Maybe this morning he will go to Moscow or somewhere else. But now he is not on Belarusian territory,` Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko today, July 6
Previously, Russia’s Fontanka newspaper reported on July 4 that Mr. Prigozhin had returned to St Petersburg, where the Wagner group is headquartered.
According to Fontanka, tycoon Wagner returned to St Petersburg to receive back the weapons previously confiscated by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) when Wagner’s rebellion took place.
Russian media channels also posted videos recording the raid on the office and residence of tycoon Wagner in St Petersburg, where a lot of cash and weapons were found.
According to the agreement between boss Wagner and the Kremlin after the rebellion, Mr. Prigozhin agreed to move to Belarus.
President Lukashenko said today that the whereabouts of Wagner’s forces is not a question for him because Wagner `is a Russian company`.
According to Mr. Lukashenko, Wagner forces are ready to share their experiences with the Belarusian army, if they are stationed in the country.
`As I was informed this morning, Wagner warriors are stationed at their bases, where they alternately rest and recover after fighting on the front lines,` Mr. Lukashenko said.
President Lukashenko said that Wagner’s stationing in Belarus does not pose a danger to the country.
`I absolutely do not see any risk to Wagner being stationed in Belarus if that happens. People are trying to pressure me on this, and I understand why. If Wagner comes to Belarus,
President Lukashenko said Belarus’s relations with Russia were strengthened thanks to his personal intervention in the Wagner rebellion.
The President of Belarus confirmed last week that tycoon Wagner came to this country under an agreement with the Russian government after the failed rebellion on June 24.
Some recently leaked images on social networks show that Wagner appears to have set up field tents near the town of Asipovichy in the Mogilev region of Belarus.
This raises concerns that Wagner is preparing to expand its presence in the region, especially in Belarus, a country bordering Ukraine and some NATO countries.
