(Dan Tri) – The Myanmar government is seeking the cooperation of the international community to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic while United Nations experts warn that Myanmar is at risk of becoming a `super-infected country`.

Myanmar is experiencing the most serious Covid-19 outbreak ever while still mired in a dual economic and political crisis. Tom Andrews, a United Nations special envoy for Myanmar, commented
Myanmar’s Irrawaddy news agency said that 10 new crematoriums are expected to be built in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, to cope with the rapid increase in deaths.
`In Yangon, you can easily see three types of queues. Either queuing in front of cash machines, or buying oxygen tanks, or at morgues and crematoriums,` Mr. Andrews said.
UN experts warn: `Myanmar is becoming a Covid-19 super-infected country with dangerous and contagious variants like Delta. This is extremely dangerous.`
The blockade affecting millions of people could not prevent the number of infections from rising sharply as the vaccination program stalled, the testing system almost collapsed, and public hospitals were almost paralyzed because of the lack of staff.
On July 28, Myanmar recorded nearly 5,000 new infections, bringing the total number of infected people to more than 284,000 people.
Myanmar wants to cooperate in dealing with Covid-19
In a speech on July 28, Myanmar General Min Aung Hlaing called for expanding cooperation with ASEAN countries and other `friendly countries` to prevent, control and treat Covid-19.
He also called for stepping up vaccination with both donated vaccines and domestically produced vaccines supported by Russia.
To date, Myanmar has vaccinated about 1.75 million people out of 54 million people.
